Scenario
Cold call practice that actually feels like a cold call
Reading a script in your head isn’t practice. A cold call is won or lost in the first ten seconds — when a busy, skeptical stranger decides whether to hang up or give you thirty more. Sell to the Max lets you rehearse exactly that moment, out loud, in a live voice call in your browser, against an AI buyer who wasn’t expecting you and doesn’t owe you their time.
How a practice cold call runs
You pick a buyer, type in what you’re selling, and choose Cold Call mode. You get briefed on the scenario, then you’re on the call. From there it’s live: they interrupt, they say “I’m in the middle of something,” they ask “who is this?” and “how’d you get my number?” — and they react to how you actually handle it, not to a branching menu. Fumble the opener and they get shorter with you. Earn a sliver of curiosity and they’ll give you a real question to answer.
Practice against someone like Maximo Russo, a 52-year-old plumbing-company owner who interrupts because he’s used to being in charge, deflects with sarcasm when he’s uncomfortable, and will name a competitor just to see how you react.
What you drill
The hard skills a cold call demands are all here: a pattern-interrupt opener that isn’t cheesy, a reason-for-the-call that’s about them, handling the reflexive brush-off, and earning the one thing a cold call is actually for — permission to continue, or a booked next step. If you freeze, say “Lifeline” and a coach drops in with a quick nudge mid-conversation, then hands you back into the call.
What happens after you hang up
Your assessment appears on screen right after the call, with a copy by email: per-category scores against the rubric you chose, what landed, and the specific line where you lost or won the prospect. Do it again tomorrow with a tougher buyer. Your scores track over time, so you can watch the opener that used to tank start holding.
What the feedback looks like
A real cold-call assessment scores each category out of 5 and tells you what to change:
You led with your company name and a feature. He tuned out by second eight. Try opening with a reason tied to his world before you say what you do.
When he said “not interested,” you didn’t flinch — you asked one sharp question that bought you twenty more seconds. That’s the move.
You never actually asked for anything. Name the specific next step and ask for it.
Cold call practice questions
What is cold call practice?
Rehearsing an unscheduled sales call — opener, brush-off handling, and earning a next step — before you do it for real. Sell to the Max runs it as a live voice conversation with an AI buyer in your browser.
Is this better than practicing with a colleague?
It’s available whenever you are, it never gets bored of repeating a scenario, and it won’t go easy on you because it knows you. Plenty of people use it to warm up right before real calls.
What do I need to start?
A browser and a microphone — no phone needed. Pick a buyer, type what you’re selling, choose Cold Call mode, and you’re in a conversation in under a minute.
How am I scored?
Against a sales rubric you choose — SPIN, Sandler, Challenger, MEDDIC and more — with per-category scores on a 1–5 scale and written feedback, on screen right after the call and emailed to you.
Run a deal arc free
Practice a full deal — two or three calls, depending on the buyer — against an AI buyer who remembers every one of them. No card, just an email.
